Rebuilding the Statistics Engine for The Game of Darts
At BarkinMad Studios, we’re always looking for ways to improve not only how our games look, but also how they work behind the scenes.
One of the biggest projects currently underway for The Game of Darts is the design of a brand-new Statistics Engine. While much of this work won’t be immediately visible to players, it will provide the foundation for more detailed statistics, richer player history and future game modes.
Why Build a New Statistics Engine?
The current statistics system has served the game well and has supported thousands of matches across multiple game modes.
As new features have been added, however, we’ve identified opportunities to redesign the underlying architecture to make it more flexible, more efficient and easier to expand in the future.
The new Statistics Engine is being designed with long-term growth in mind rather than simply replacing the existing system.
Better Statistics for Every Player
The goal is to give players a much clearer picture of their performance over time.
Development is focused on supporting:
• Richer match statistics.
• Improved player history.
• Better long-term performance tracking.
• More detailed averages and scoring analysis.
• Enhanced post-match summaries.
• Faster access to historical data.
The new architecture will also provide a stronger foundation for player profile statistics and future analytical features.
Preparing for Future Game Modes
The Game of Darts has grown well beyond traditional X01 matches.
Today’s game already includes multiple modes, including:
• X01 (301, 501 and 701)
• American Cricket
• Mulligan Cricket
• Bob’s 27
• Hare & Hound
• Snooker Darts
• Halve It
• All 5s
The redesigned statistics engine is being built to support every current game mode while making it significantly easier to introduce new ones in the future.
Improving the User Experience
Alongside the new statistics engine, we’re also continuing to refine the game’s interface.
Current work includes:
• Redesigned player comparison screens.
• Clearer statistics layouts.
• Improved diagnostics for testing.
• Continued Cricket gameplay refinements.
• General UI polish across the app.
These improvements are intended to make information easier to understand while keeping the game quick and enjoyable to use.
Protecting Existing Player Data
One of the most important design goals is ensuring that existing player statistics are preserved.
Rather than asking players to start over, we’re designing a migration process that will move existing statistics into the new system automatically as part of a future update.
This allows long-time players to keep the history they’ve built while benefiting from the improvements of the new architecture.
Looking Ahead
Although this work is still in development, it represents one of the largest technical improvements we’ve made to The Game of Darts since its original release.
Building a robust statistics platform now will allow us to continue adding new features, improve player insights and support future game modes for years to come.
We’ll continue sharing development updates as work on the new Statistics Engine and user interface progresses.
